Kickstart new print industry careers, Government job scheme

Updated: Apr 12, 2022

Here at Eight Days a Week Print Solutions we're keeping our eye firmly on the future growth of our business by taking on new trainees using the government’s ‘Kickstart’ scheme.

Through our trade body - The Independent Print Industries Association (IPIA), we are thrilled to be joining the national effort helping to support young people in employment. We've just taken on two of the 100 trainees placed nationwide with IPIA members, Callum Draycott as a trainee print technician and Sam Riley as trainee production operative.

What is the kickstart scheme?

The Kickstart Scheme helps employers by providing funding for them to create job placements for 16 to 24 year olds.

The Government pays 100% of national minimum wages for 25 hours for a total of 6 months along with associated employer NI contributions. The employer also receives a grant of £1,500 for setup and training costs. The trainees will learn valuable new skills which could lead to permanent positions within the business at the end of their 6 month term.

Further investment in new employees too Eight Days are also off to a flying start for 2021. As a result of an increase in production at our Nottingham site for the first quarter of 2021 we’ve also taken on an additional skilled finishing machine operator Duane Humphreys . Our growing list of customers has also resulted in the creation of an additional Account Manager role currently being advertised for the business too. Here's what our MD Lance Hill had to say:

The company is experiencing a good level of growth at present in all areas and it’s important we capitalise on that. Our new production operative brings a lot of ‘straight out of the box’ experience and knowledge which will help us continue exceeding the needs of our clients. Investing in the future is vital for any progressive business and the Kickstart scheme is a total no brainer to take advantage of for us. It’s a great opportunity for 16 to 24 year olds to learn valuable skills and it refreshing to see so much new blood coming into our industry.

UPDATE: October 2021

Kickstarters join EDWPS Printers

We are pleased to confirm the permanent positions of our two Kickstart Scheme trainee's, Callum Draycott and Sam Riley.

Callum & Sam have demonstrated their desire to learn new skills in an industry that they were mostly unfamiliar with, which we hope sets them up for a great career ahead with us.

Managing Director Lance Hill had this to say.

“It’s great to have these two staying on, thoroughly deserved and an excellent example of how schemes like this can work, if you have the right mindset.”
